The short version

PuckSurveys is a survey tool. We collect the answers people give to surveys, basic usage analytics to make the product better, and an email address if you create an account. We do not sell your data, we do not run third-party ad trackers, and we don't fingerprint you. That's the whole deal. The longer version below just spells it out.

Who this covers

Respondents: people answering a survey. You don't need an account to answer.
Creators: people who sign in to build surveys and see results.

What we collect

When you answer a survey (respondent):

Your answers, including any ratings and optional free-text comments you choose to write.
Optional demographic items (e.g. on "Life snapshot"), these are always skippable, and the survey says so.
A random per-device ID stored in your browser so a survey can remember your progress and so we don't double-count you. It is not linked to your name or email, and we do not combine browser, device, or network signals to build a fingerprint.
Basic events about how the survey was used (e.g. that a page was viewed, that a response was started or completed). We store these to understand and improve completion, see "Usage analytics" below.

When you create an account (creator):

Your email address, which we use to send you a sign-in link (we use magic links, so there's no password to store).
The surveys you create and the responses they collect.

What we deliberately don't collect:

We don't store your IP address beyond the brief moment needed for spam/rate-limiting protection.
We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We don't fingerprint your device or buy data about you from anyone.

Usage analytics

We keep an internal event log (page visits, response started/completed/abandoned, and similar product events, each with a coarse source tag if you arrived from a tagged link). It's tied to the anonymous device ID, never to advertising networks. We use it only to see where the product works and where it doesn't, for example, which question people drop off at. We never sell it and never share it with advertisers.

How we use what we collect

To run the surveys and show creators their results.
To send creators their sign-in links and, if you ask for it, occasional product notices.
To improve the product (completion rates, quality of write-ups and advice, fixing drop-off points).
To protect the service from abuse and spam.

The personality, sleep, and similar "snapshot" surveys produce general, descriptive write-ups and suggestions, not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a clinical assessment. See the Terms for more.

Who we share it with

We don't sell personal data and we don't share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers ("subprocessors") to run the product, and they only handle data on our behalf:

We may disclose information if the law genuinely requires it, or to protect the service and its users from abuse, and we'll resist over-broad requests.

Where it's stored

Data is hosted by Railway in the United States.

Your choices and rights

Creators can export their survey data (CSV) and can ask us to delete their account and its data.
Respondents can ask us to delete responses tied to their device ID, email us and we'll help locate and remove them.
Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data. Email pucks@fastmail.com and we'll honor applicable requests.
Clearing your browser storage removes the anonymous device ID from your side.

Data retention

We keep survey responses for as long as the creator's account is active, or until deletion is requested. Anonymous usage events are kept to analyze product trends and are automatically deleted once they're older than 24 months.

Children

PuckSurveys isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we'll update the date above and, for account holders, note it at sign-in. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
